The Rise of Foldable Phones
Despite the fact that foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which is considered one of the Best Foldable Phones, are not yet widely adopted, they are on the rise. And it’s no surprise that Samsung is leading the charge by delivering a mix of useful features and performance that allows users to take advantage of all screens.
Samsung Dominates the Foldable Market
In 2022 alone, 14.2 million foldable phones were sold, with 12 million of them being Galaxy branded, according to a report from the Financial Times citing Canalys, a global leader in tech market analysis company. That means Samsung dominated 80% of the foldable market for the year. To provide some context, Samsung sold 25 million Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 phones in 2021, with the Galaxy S22 line selling 11 million as of July of 2022.
Possible 100% Increase in Sales for 2023
While 12 million phones for 2022 might not sound like a lot, for foldable phones which are still battling adoption rates, it’s quite impressive. Currently, foldables represent only about 1% of the global smartphone market. However, with Samsung leading the charge, Canalys estimates a possible 100% increase in sales for 2023, which means you’ll likely start seeing a lot more people with foldable phones in their hands this summer.
The Future of Foldable Phones
Although Samsung is currently the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, other, less prominent brands are doing fantastic work with their foldable offerings too. For example, Google is rumored to launch a Pixel foldable this year. Samsung had a wonderful early start in the foldable niche and saw a wide adoption by enterprise partners, looking to provide great multitasking tools to their employees. Now, the battlefield may finally be moving into the regular consumer’s hands, and we can’t wait!
