Samsung Plans to Release an Update for the Galaxy S23 Series to Optimize Cameras
According to a tweet from reliable tipster Ice Universe, Samsung is planning to release a “big update” for the Galaxy S23 series, with the main focus on camera optimization. This update is primarily aimed at improving the overall picture quality for the devices in the series, including the top-of-the-line Galaxy S23 Ultra, which features Samsung’s 200MP HP2 image sensor.
The Photography System on the Galaxy S23 Line Could Use a Tune-Up
Using 16:1 pixel binning, the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s primary camera delivers approximately 12MP images. The pixel binning allows the pixels to have more data, resulting in sharper photos with less noise and better dynamic range. However, Galaxy S23 series users have complained about the picture quality of their devices. These issues are not limited to high-end models and could be improved with a tune-up.
Several Galaxy S23 users on Reddit also reported shutter lag as another major problem they encountered. One Redditor named ElGuano expressed that “shutter lag is one of the most discussed complaints about the S23.”
Complaints About Image Quality on the Galaxy S23
Users have reported several problems with the image quality on the Galaxy S23 series cameras, including blurry text in photos, artifacts showing up in some pictures, and Night Mode issues. Night Mode is a feature that enables users to take pictures in low-light environments without using flash. Samsung’s image processing has also come under scrutiny for over-sharpening images, with the Galaxy S23 Ultra being more guilty of this than its two siblings.
Ice Universe has already suggested that Night Mode will be one of the features improved by the upcoming update. It is not uncommon for phone manufacturers to release an update shortly after launching a new phone or phone series to address any issues.
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Camera Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ feature a 50MP primary Wide camera, a 12MP Ultra-wide camera, a 10MP Telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP front-facing camera for selfies and video chats. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, on the other hand, sports a 200MP primary camera, a 12MP Ultra-wide camera, two 10MP Telephoto cameras (one with 3x optical zoom and the other with 10x optical zoom), and a front-facing 12MP selfie camera.
