Samsung Equips Galaxy S Flagship with Qualcomm Snapdragon and Exynos Chipsets
Samsung released its Galaxy S series flagship equipped with different chipsets depending on the region. In the United States, Canada, and China, the smartphones were powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chips (SoCs), while everywhere else, Samsung equipped them with its latest Exynos chipset.
Fears of Overheating from Snapdragon 810
In 2015, Samsung had to equip all Galaxy S6 series models with the same Exynos chip due to concerns that the Snapdragon 810 was overheating.
Samsung Equips Galaxy S23 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset
Last year, Samsung equipped all Galaxy S series handsets with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which will likely last for the foreseeable future. However, a Twitter tipster named Connor stated that next year’s Galaxy S24 line will not use an Exynos chip, which means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC will likely be employed.
Different Specs for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC
Two tipsters, RGcloudS and Revegnus, disseminated different specs for the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. However, it seems that both tipsters agree that the chip will be produced by TSMC using its 4nm process node. RGcloudS states that the chipset will use a 1-4-3 configuration, with one high-performance Cortex X-4 CPU core running at a speed of 3.70GHz. On the other hand, Revegnus expects the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to carry a 1-5-2 configuration with a high-performance Cortex X-4 core running at 3.20GHz, five Cortex-A720 performance cores running at 3.0GHz, and two Cortex-A520 efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz.
Samsung’s Plans for Exynos Chipsets
Samsung is reportedly working on a new Exynos chipset using ARM’s Cortex CPU cores. However, this high-powered SoC might not be ready in time for next year’s flagship series and could debut with the Galaxy S25 line in 2025 if it debuts at all.
