Rumors Surrounding Samsung’s Next Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip Devices
Although Samsung’s latest Unpacked event took place just over a month ago, speculation has started surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, which are expected to be announced in August. This speculation started back in July 2022 and has become more specific and plausible in recent months.
“Confirmation” of a New “External Screen” for the Z Fold 5
Ice Universe, a reliable tech tipster, has indicated that the Z Fold 5 will feature an external screen, and this news is confidently labeled as “confirmation”.
External Screen Size
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to have the same 6.2-inch external display as the Z Fold 4. The Z Fold 3 also had a 6.2-inch cover screen. Samsung has shown no indication of wanting to increase the external screen size, although some users might desire a larger screen, similar to that of other foldable phones.
Samsung also will not be returning to the 4.6-inch external screen of the first-gen Galaxy Fold. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 included a slightly larger external screen of 6.23 inches, while the original Galaxy Fold had a much smaller 4.6-inch secondary panel with excessive dead space surrounding it.
Possible Upgrades for the Z Fold 5
Ice Universe has indicated that they already know most specifications for both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, including the possibility of internal storage starting at 256GB and going up to 1TB. The Z Fold 5 will also likely have the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor as the Galaxy S23 family. However, the Z Fold 5 will not feature a built-in S Pen like the Z Fold 4 did.
The camera department may experience significant upgrades, but no official information about a potential 108MP shooter on the back of the device has been released.
The best foldable in the world may also see improvements to its hinge, crease, and overall durability, although it may not be immediately obvious at first glance. All in all, Samsung has not indicated that major upgrades are planned for the Z Fold 5, but there is still time for additional announcements before the device is officially announced in August.
