Xiaomi Band 8 may have individually detachable bands, leak suggests
The Xiaomi Band series has long been a popular option for fitness enthusiasts looking for affordable trackers. The upcoming Xiaomi Band 8, which appears to be going through its certification process in Korea, may feature the most significant redesign in a while. According to leaked images, the new device may have individually detachable bands.
The certification process with South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) suggests that the Xiaomi Band 8 will see a broad international launch, as previous models have. The fitness bands are widely available in the United States, usually available on Amazon for a little under $50.
At first glance, the new device appears similar to its predecessor. However, upon closer inspection, two bands beside the device appear to have a mechanism that lets them hook right onto the device, making it easier to use. Previous Xiaomi Bands did not feature detachable bands, instead requiring that the device be placed in a dedicated slot within a single strap.
If past product launches are any indication, the Band 8 may debut in China first, followed by a release in other international markets. It’s possible that there may be two versions of the fitness tracker once again, one featuring NFC payment support for the Chinese market and another without it for the rest of the world.
